The Power of the Sun
He has identified us as his own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything he has promised us. 2 Corinthians 1:22 NLT
God made the sun. It produces more power in one second than the human race has used throughout all of history. It has enough energy to burn for five billion more years. And it’s just one of the stars God made. That’s how much power he has at his disposal.
God is the one who gives us the ability to move forward. He has commissioned us and identified us as his own. The Spirit, not our own power, is what equips us for God’s service. This is the key to not giving up when we get tired. The Bible says, “It is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (Philippians 2:13).
When God gives you the will and the power to do something, you’ll be able to do it. He will never ask you to do something without giving you the power to accomplish it. And his power is unlimited. He says, “I will empower you if you trust me.”
FOOD FOR THOUGHT: God says, “Look to me. Draw near to me. My power is limitless, and I desire to freely give it to you.”

Rachel’s thoughts: God gave us a very significant example of His power this week, didn’t he? The freezing sub zero temps swept across almost the entire country. Weather so cold and harsh that much of our heat sources were compromised. Many were without heat or power of any kind for hours at a time. The sun was present but it was as if He turned the thermostat off. It definitely was a good example of who really is in charge in our lives right? And yet the cold blast was a mere fraction of HIS power in our lives. It was as if He were saying....remember me? lets talk. I know I was thanking him for our wood burning stove and the ability to carry in that wood to burn that he provided long ago when the seed that was planted started to grow, flourish then decline and die all so we would have it to use this past couple of weeks. He does that you know? plants seeds, allows them to grow, and flourish....for His purposes.
As I write my thoughts today we are experiencing some beautiful sunshine and even though my phone says the temperature is only 21 degrees and would not be considered warm….in comparison to -28 degrees just days ago it almost feels balmy. The power of the sun feels miraculous today. My spirit lifts and everything seems “possible” again. I love how the devotion today gives us perspective on how much power God has in our lives. It points us to what we can tap into as a resource in our every day life….He has already provided us with energy and all we need to take care of ourselves…we have only to ask for more when we feel lacking. We have grown weary through Covid19 and this past couple of weeks of frigid weather just felt like another hit to our flagging enthusiasm for life. May we all feel re-energized. Lift your eyes to the sky today, soak in the sun and remember to thank the one who provides for us…..the ONE who walks with us today. His power is limitless. We have some of that within us. May our actions this week be a gift back to Him.
